Our Nests: A Story

This guide will give you all you need to effectively utilise and understand the design philosophy behind the nests we craft.

Our nests are designed and handcrafted in-house, in Sydney, Australia from locally sourced components when possible. This means we can guarantee the quality and sturdiness of our nests. See below to understand how we designed the nests and the thought process behind features within.

Design Philosophy

Designing nests for ants is a challenge we approached with the utmost care. We understand that forcing ants to do what's best for them can be problematic, so we designed these nests to allow for the largest range of conditions the ants can choose from. They will naturally modify their behaviour to perfectly compliment ambient conditions. Therefore, within our nests, we have strived for a variety of chamber sizes, humidity gradients, and watering schedules that come from our extensive experience in keeping ants.

Value

This philosophy is enshrined in our dual ranges of acrylic nests, large and small chambered. Acrylic nests on the market today tend not to cater to specific species, or sizes of ant. Therefore, our aim was to create a range of affordable nests for a broad number of species. These can range from the small I. bicknelli, through to the towering M. brevinoda or C. intrepidus. Through this, our customers and the ants can feel safe and secure knowing that the nest they purchase has been designed and crafted in-house for the species and size of ant they want to keep. No more traffic jams for your Camponotus colony exiting to forage! However, if you find that the nests available in our range don't suit your needs, however niche they may be, let us know! We can design and cut something custom for you and your ants.

Components

Our nests are constructed from components sourced locally within Australia where possible. Consisting of laser-cut acrylic, stainless steel fittings and 3D printed elements, we pride ourselves on minimal international outsourcing, and supporting local business. The acrylic layers are cut right here in Sydney at a local plastic fabricator, whilst the stainless steel fittings and 3D printing filament are sourced from Melbourne-based, Australian owned and operated businesses. This means you can have faith in our products, and their sturdiness, usability, and that you are supporting Australian business.
